Vacation Bible School: Son Quest Rainforest

The children will go on an adventure to the Son Quest Rainforest this year at Vacation Bible School.

Dates: June 21-25, 2010, 9:00 a.m. to noon daily.

Cost: $15 per child, maximum $40 per family

Ages: Completion of preschool 3s through 4th grade. (Youngsters age 5th grade and up are eligible to help)

There will be a special class for children age 2 and a nursery for infants to age 2 whose moms volunteer.

Registration forms are available in the church office, the preschool office, or you can sign up at church on Sunday mornings.

Facing the Giants

Never give up! Never back down! Never lose faith!

Shiloh Christian Academy may be a great school, but it has a so-so football team. In fact, Coach Grant Taylor has not had a single winning season in the six years he's been in charge. So when a star running back transfers to a cross-town rival, it's all but guaranteed that the upcoming seventh season will be the same as all the others. That's just one of the things that are weighing Taylor down. His car won't run. There’s a foul odor on his home and he and his wife, Brooke, are facing the prospect that they can't have children. Unknown yet to Coach and his team is a post-season match-up against the state's most feared squad, the undefeated Giants, led by a bulldog of a coach who is used to chewing up rivals as frequently as he does the lollipops perpetually stuck in his mouth. But Facing the Giants is more than a simple David-and-Goliath metaphor on the gridiron. This film tells the story of faith in the face of long odds and the need to align our priorities with God's.

 

Maundy Thursday, April 9: The Living Last Supper

Maundy Thursday, April 9, 2009, 7:00 p.m.

 

Join us for a moving performance of The Living Last Supper, a dramatic musical experience by Ruth Elaine Schram.

 

One of Christianity's most significant events was brilliantly portrayed in the painting by Leonardo Da Vinci centuries ago: The Last Supper. This Renaissance masterpiece is brought to life in Ruth Elaine Schram's remarkable work, The Living Last Supper.

 

The music deftly and passionately captures the pathos of the event while, one by one the disciples speak, expressing their innermost thoughts with brief but poignant monologues that also portray their incredulous astonishment at Jesus' assertion that one of them would betray him that fateful night.

 

Chancel Choir, Joyful Sound, Adult Praise Team and the Youth Praise Team will present the music. The cast is portrayed by various members of the congregation.

 

We will have communion as a part of this reenactment. All are welcome.

 

 

 

Celebrate the Gifts of Women

Celebrate the Gifts of Women on Sunday, March 8.

During both services, the gifts and contributions of women will be recognized, Rev. Stacy Chandler will preach, and the honor of a Presbyterian Women Lifetime Membership will be awarded to a TPC member.

After the 11:00 a.m. service, we will gather in Fellowship Hall for a special luncheon, where we will recognize the artistic talents of TPC women. Join us to see what special creative gifts some of our sisters in Christ have been blessed with.

A delicious meal will be prepared by our own Tom Baccus. The cost is $10 for adults, $4 for children (maximum $30 per family). Childcare will be available. Please make your reservations by March 5 using the sign-up sheets in the breezeway, calling the church office, or using the event sign-up feature on our website at www.mytpc.org.

Female Focus Cookie Swap Dec. 2

Female Focus will gather at 7:00 p.m., Dec. 2, at Stacy Chandler's home for a cookie swap. Bring two dozen cookies to share and join us for some fun, a bit of snacking, and then take home some yummy holiday treats for your family.

Heifer for the Holidays! Here’s the perfect gift for those hard-to-buy-for folks on your Christmas list: a donation to Heifer Project. Give the gift of life around the world in honor of or in memory of a loved one, friend, teacher, or anyone else you want to remember at this special time of year. Gift cards are available. Donations can be made at the table in the breezeway each Sunday beginning Nov. 16 though Dec. 6.

Gleaning for the entire congregation, Nov. 1

Gleaning is the Biblical practice of hand-gathering crops left in the fields after harvest. The Society of St. Andrews coordinates volunteers, growers, and distribution agencies to provide food for hungry people through gleaning. The salvaged produce is taken to local food distribution centers.

 

On Nov. 1, our congregation will have the opportunity to glean food at a farm in Zellwood. We will be picking corn and cucumbers. We are working on having the food we gather delivered to the Sonshine Center in Oviedo.

 

This is a great opportunity to teach hands-on service to your family. Invite your friends to join us.

 

We will carpool from the church, leaving at 7:30 a.m. We will be in fields picking, so old clothes, gloves and hats are the appropriate attire. We will be finished at 11:30. Sign up sheets and release forms are on the bulletin board. OR sign up on line at mytpc.org.
