The youth (grades 6-12) will be going on a gleaning retreat Dec. 4-5 in Eustis. They will glean oranges and worship with youth from other churches around Central Florida. The retreat begins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4 and ends Saturday, Dec. 5 at 4:00 p.m. Cost is $15 per person. Christmas in the City 2009
Does thinking about Christmas now make you feel like you must be one of Santa’s elves? Who else would be starting this soon? Or you might just be looking forward to Christmas in the City again this year. It is surely not too early to put this event on your calendar.
Christmas in the City is a Christmas party on Sunday, Dec. 20, 1:00-5:00 p.m. Underprivileged, needy, and homeless families in South Seminole County will be provided a meal, the ingredients for a Christmas dinner including a turkey, and gifts for children of all ages by OneBody at its second annual Christmas event. OneBody is a group of committed churches, including TPC, which are working together with the Hope Foundation to make a direct impact on poverty, hunger, and homelessness in our community. The Christmas in the City event will be held at the Oviedo Aquatic Center.
Last year the event provided more than 500 families with a complete Christmas dinner and 600 children were given two new gifts each. In addition, 215 gift cards were given to teenagers and a hot meal was served to 1,000 people. Finally, over 500 volunteers, people just like you, helped serve children and families in our community. And we’re planning to help even more people this year—with your support and assistance, of course.
There will be plenty to do to get ready for the party both here at TPC and at the Hope Foundation. Here we will gather together our donations of food, gift cards for turkeys and gifts, wrapping paper, bows, socks and undies among other things. One Saturday in December we will gather here to prepare our donations and bake cookies—ah, the aroma.
For those of you who want to be a part of the event itself, there will be an online sign up sheet with a master list of tasks needing done and the time slots for each task. Whether you like to sing, serve, wrap, play games, pray or dozens of other things, there will be something for you. Sign up with a few clicks of your mouse. But more about that later. Soon you will start seeing announcements, flyers, sign up sheets and other materials about this wonderful event. Hope to see you there. Ho-ho-ho.

Hanging of the Greens, Sunday, Nov. 22, 4:00 p.m.
Celebrate the beginning of Advent at this family event that begins with lighting the Advent candle, hanging Christmas banners and wreaths, trimming the tree (the children get to place the chrismons on the 14 ft. tree in the sanctuary), and singing familiar Christmas carols. When the sanctuary is prepared for Advent, we will move to Fellowship Hall for a casual potluck dinner.
The community is invited and there is no charge.

On Sunday, Dec. 13, we will gather in Fellowship Hall at 2:30 for light refreshments and to organize into groups that will go caroling to our homebound members and others in the community.
This is a wonderful celebration of Christmas for all ages, and you don't need to be a great singer to participate. We should have some Chancel Choir members in each group (and perfect singing is not our goal anyway). We should be back at the church by 5:30 or 6:00 p.m.
If you have been suffering from the blues, the blahs, the ho-hums or the out-of-sorts, read on. We have the perfect way for you to get out of your routine; perk up your attitude; forget about yourself for a while and enjoy all the mental health benefits of sharing with others and making them smile.

O*Town Harmony, an all-female quartet, will perform at Tuskawilla Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Nov. 1, 7:00 p.m. This energetic and entertaining quartet sings various styles of a cappella and accompanied music, including jazz, pop, contemporary Christian, Broadway, and traditional. This concert will feature songs from throughout the ages done in a combination of new arrangements and classical styles.

Internet Safety for Parents and Kids presented by the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. Tuesday, Nov. 10, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Tuskawilla Presbyterian Church.
The SCSO Economic & Computer Crimes Unit, Crimes Against Children Unit, and Crime Prevention Unit will host a computer/internet safety event for parents, grandparents, guardians and kids 3rd grade through high school. The sessions will run simultaneously, with adults in the sanctuary and kids in Fellowship Hall. Child care for infants and toddlers will be available.
Both groups will learn about crime on the internet, electronic communication (email, IM, chat, mobile phones, etc), peer to peer networks, and social networking sites. Children will not be allowed to attend the adult-only event as parental monitoring tactics will also be discussed. No charge; reservations not required. Open to the community.

We are putting together a local mission team to paint the buildings at Edgewood Children’s Ranch. Ray McDonald has visited the ranch to discuss exactly what needs to be done and this is his report:
They have six building where the children live and two office buildings that also need painting. These are concrete block buildings, one story and only about nine foot walls. They would like us to paint the concrete blocks and leave the doors and windows which they will paint. This makes the job easier for us. They have all the paint, paint brushes, rollers, paint trays and cans, plus ladders if required as they also have extension for their rollers. If you want to bring your own equipment it is okay.
I would like to start on Wed., Sept. 23 and Thur., Sept. 24. We will also have Saturday Sept. 26 for the youth to work along with the adults.
I need to call ahead as to the approximate number of workers that we have each day. Please use the sign-up sheets on the bulletin board at church, the sign-up form on the website, or call Gail Davis (407-671-1497) and let her know what days you can work.
It is about a 45-minute drive from the church to the Ranch. The work team will leave from the church about 8:30 a.m. each day.
About the Edgewood Children’s Ranch:
Edgewood Children’s Ranch (www.edgewoodranch.org) is a non-denominational Christian-oriented resident agency serving children and families of Central Florida. Edgewood's mission is to rehabilitate youth-at-risk and their families, returning children to their homes and society as healthy, functioning young people and getting them back to the appropriate academic level in school.
No boy or girl is ever "sent" to the Edgewood Children's Ranch. It is essential that the children themselves make the decision to come. They agree to accept the rules, participate in chores around the Ranch and become involved in athletic activities. The average stay is one to two years. Children are accepted regardless of race, religion, color, ethnic origin or ability to pay. Parents/guardians must agree to attend weekly parenting classes to develop parental skills and to increase confidence in their ability to receive the child back into the family. On Sundays they attend non-denominational chapel services with their children, and after services go off grounds for a family get together.
